A Good Samaritan who stepped in to help an elderly woman who was dragged out of a cab and robbed by the driver recalled the attack. The victim remains fearful, as her attacker still hasn't been arrested.
Catherine Shine, 78, from Brooklyn was seen in a viral video being pulled out of a cab by her leg and thrown onto the street on Wednesday afternoon. Shine was taking an Access-A-Ride cab to physical therapy when her driver, Mohamed Ahmed Elsakran, went past her destination and refused to let her out of the car.
Elsakran then jumped out of the car, opened Shine's door and dragged her out by the leg. The 78-year-old fought back with her cane.
Ezra Shalawani, 35, filmed the attack on the streets of Brooklyn located on East 35 Street near the corner of Avenue N in Marine Park. He intervened after he saw the elderly woman on the floor beating the driver with her cane.
‘I was taking a walk outside my office and saw someone pull someone else out of the vehicle, so I pulled my phone out and started recording, and as soon as I hit that record button I saw an elderly woman hit a man with a cane,' Shalawani told DailyMail.com.
Shalawani suffered a minor injury after attempting to stop the fleeing cab driver. He is seen in the video wearing a sling.

Shine noticed on her Wednesday cab drive that the driver was past her stop. She demanded him to stop when the altercation occurred
The good Samaritan quickly intervened as Shine screamed the driver had stolen her phone.
Shalawani insisted that Elsakran give the phone back. The cab driver then apparently noticed he was being filmed and promptly returned the phone.
'That’s when his jaw dropped, and he handed me the phone very politely as if he didn’t just throw a woman out of the vehicle a few seconds earlier,' Shalawani recalled.
