Peter Rabbit 50p: Beatrix Potter's character gets his own coin

Everyone remember 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit'- The naughty bunny of four who snuck in to Mr. McGregor's back garden to steal some vegetables, ate far too many, experienced some unfortunate events, lost all his clothes, and then finally was put to bed with a spoonful of chamomile tea.

If you don't you definitely should as he is now making history.

To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of children's author, Beatrix Potter, Royal Mint has chosen Peter as the first fictional character to appear on a selection of 50p coins later this year. Emma Noble has created a selection of designs that bring our most cherished animal in his famous blue jacket back to life!

Model Lily Cole is excited about the news and about remembering Beatrix Potter: "I think her story is quite extraordinary. I believe that time is the only real test of works of great art or literature, and so for any person to write a book that is still in circulation a hundred years later is an enormous triumph. That she was a woman, and found success at a time where women met huge social obstacles, makes her even more of a hero to me."

Anyone else feeling extremely nostalgic right now?
