Donna Summer inducted into venue's Hall of Fame
Donna Summer brought summer to the Hollywood Bowl in a raucous perf Friday that had the auds dancing in the aisles, even those in the expensive boxes.
“At my concerts, you can dance,” said Summer, one of three inductees into the Bowl’s Hall of Fame. She was accompanied by Richard Carpenter, who with his late sister Karen, was another honoree. Karen haunted the evening’s entertainment as clips of her performances and interviews were played. Carpenter talked about his trio’s first perf at the Bowl during a Battle of the Bands, for which he wrote music for friend Wes Jacobs, who played the tuba. “It must’ve worked because we did pretty darn well at the Bowl,” he said.
Third honoree (although first on the program) Jean-Yves Thibaudet was introduced by Victoria Tennant, who mentioned (unnecessarily) a couple of times how handsome the pianist was.
